A group of radicals from Athletic Bilbao caused disturbances tonight in the surroundings of San Mamés, prior to the Copa del Rey semi-final match against Atlético de Madrid. Dozens of people have confronted the Ertzaintza, at whom they have thrown glasses and bottles, and chanted against the Basque regional police. The altercations occurred moments after the teams arrived at the stadium, when some radical fans took advantage of the inertia of the reception of the local team to begin the attacks.

The Ertzaintza has confirmed the hospitalization of a person after being attacked while eating in a restaurant on Rodríguez Arias Street, but it has not been confirmed if the event has something to do with the match or if it was a confrontation between fans, a version had been reported previously. The victim of the attack was transferred to the Basurto hospital in Bilbao “with erosions” and has needed “treatments and stitches”, without specifying which part of the body or the extent of the wounds, reports Mikel Ormazabal.
