The Sports Administrative Court (TAD) has upheld the appeal of Miguel Galán, founder of the Cenafe coaching school, against the electoral process in the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), as EL PAÍS has learned. This forces the holding of new elections in a beheaded federation and with practically its entire leadership investigated within the framework of Operation Brodie regarding an alleged corruption plot within it. Thus, Pedro Rocha, virtual winner of the elections as he was the only one capable of gathering sufficient endorsements, will not be able to be named president now that he is also being investigated in the case.
The TAD resolution inadmisses the appeal of the Electoral Commission, which refused to admit Galán’s complaint. He requested to challenge the electoral process on the grounds that more than thirty assembly members had not been renewed. Despite this, the electoral process continued and the appointment of Rocha, the winner of the elections, was pending due to the lack of more candidates. Now the TAD orders that the actions be taken back so that the Electoral Commission can issue a resolution in accordance with the law. This is a formal question about a recourse to the electoral procedure, which will have to be resolved by the Electoral Board. At the time, the Electoral Board rejected the appeal presented by Galán due to a sort of formal defect. The TAD considers that there is no reason for inadmissibility, so the Electoral Board must admit the appeal and decide on the merits.
