It is always a good idea to review films like The protected one, which reflect the almost visionary quality of an author like Shyamalan. A tribute to the world of comics, as bold as it is exciting, which creates correspondences in the real world for the heroes of comics. The result is a superb thriller, but also a dense plot that moves between electric shocks, wrapped in a staging of undeniable classical spirit. The sequence in which Bruce Willis’ character tests his strength before the gaze of his son, which in the hands of any upstart would have become a whirlwind of shots without any order, reveals a filmmaker of immense wisdom, a wizard of rhythm, of editing and of the handling of cinematic space.

Javier Fesser’s third film is an aggressive portrait of religious fanaticism. And he approaches them with rigor and serenity. His protagonist is an 11-year-old girl, suffering from an incurable disease, educated to accept death as a divine plan. In her bright and sorrowful eyes, lives the desire for happiness. In her environment, tragedy and suffering are jealously nurtured in the name of the afterlife. The images of Path, Cruel but beautiful, they are full of suggestions and emotions. Thus, Javier Fesser achieves not only a memorable film, but also a lacerating invitation to reflection.
