The beginning of the April Fair in the Community of Madrid took place at the beginning of the month in the Plaza de España in Fuenlabrada thanks to the initiative of the Andalusian Regional House and the city council. For three days, we were able to enjoy free performances, dances, masterclass and even a manzanilla wine tasting.

We already know that in Madrid there are many Asturians, La Mancha, Andalusians and from all over and it is logical that we “expatriates” want to remember, from time to time, Our traditions. And few traditions have as many followers in Andalusia as the Sevillian April Fair, which already has more than 175 years of history.

Madrid is a market and few places exemplify the traditional flavor of the city like the Prosperidad Market, located on the street Lopez de Hoyos 81, one step away from the Prosperidad Metro stop. It opened in 1954 and a decade ago it underwent a modernization of its facilities, currently having 32 stalls and premises.

From April 17, this market in the center of Madrid will experience its particular April Fair with different activities with a marked Andalusian flavor. To begin with, you should not miss the cover route gourmet: for “only” five euros you get a special tapa and a drink.

And if you want to liven up the tapas with free music, come on Saturday: the Sevillian will be on April 20 Andres Iwasaki who, according to himself, grew up in a rural house in the Guadalquivir plain, so he knows a little about rebujitos and enlighten yourselves.

On Saturday the 27th, for its part, it is the turn of David de Palomaa native of Madrid raised in Usera and residing in Valdemoro but who declares himself an unconditional fan of flamenco, “of Juan Antonio Salazar, Miguel Rubio, el Torta and of course, the great Camarón de la Isla.”

There is no better soundtrack than this for the end of the April Fair party at the Prosperidad Market, which will complete its program with an urban art event for Saturday the 20th and a photocall for you to take a picture with your best Manila shawl .

The connection between the capital and Andalusia and its art, which the April Fair represents so well, can be traced in various Madrid spaces. By plotting your own route you can visit, for example, some of the most important flamenco temples in the world.

We must not forget that names like Sara Baras, Paco de Lucía or Camarón himself performed in some of these spaces with many decades of history behind them. You will hear the Corral de la Moreríaright?, which is even the setting for popular television series.

He was selected by the New York Times as one of the 1,000 places you had to see before you die, so it is more than easy to cross this place off that list because it is just a step away from Almudena, on the Morería street that gives it its name.

And what to say about Flamenco Tablao 1911former Villa Rosa, which you will find next to Plaza Santa Ana. The oldest tablao in the world that has led it to be considered the cathedral of flamenco.

More recent are the Flamenco Cultural Center from Chueca, the Tablao La Carmelaone step away from Puerta del Sol or the Cardamom, which has been active for 30 years and has seen El Cigala and Antonio Carmona. A good plan to celebrate your most Sevillian April Fair in the capital.
