Apple presents its new iPads | Technology

With the most complete renewal of its range of tablets since 2018, Apple has surprised by launching the new iPad Pro its own new generation processor, the M4, which is not yet included in any of its computers. In addition to a complete redesign of the top-of-the-range iPads, the tech giant has updated its Air model, providing it for the first time with a 13-inch version, which until now was an explosive size for the Pro models of Apple tablets.

“Here is the new iPad Pro, the thinnest product we have ever created, the most advanced display we have ever produced,” in the words of Tim Cook, CEO of Applewhen presenting its new iPad Pro at its new event called Let Loose (to let go or lose one’s hair, in English). The 13-inch model measures 5.1 millimeters wide, while the 11-inch model is two-tenths of a millimeter thicker.

During the online presentation, completely pre-recorded on video like the ones Apple carried out during the pandemic, several managers focused on the professional video and sound editing capabilities of the new iPad Pro. The company takes another step in its strategy of positioning its loft tablets as a complete alternative to laptops, just as powerful but lighter and thinner, and with the versatility added by the touch screen and haptic pen. Along these lines, Apple incorporates in its new iPad Pro, in addition to the M4 processor, another feature that is not yet available in any of its laptops or monitors: the OLED screen.

As an anecdotal detail, for this technological innovation – which brings to its iPad Pro photos, videos and games with greater brightness and more realistic black colors than on its personal computers – Apple has reserved a complex name: Ultra Retina XDR OLED Display, something unbecoming of the simplicity that Steve Jobs imposed on the company in all its facets, from industrial design to marketing.

He new M4 chip is, according to Apple, up to 1.5 times faster than the powerful M2 chip in the previous generation iPad Pro, making it a “powerful chip for AI,” according to the company. Pending real comparisons with the M3 processors of the iMac and MacBook laptops, the processor presents two new specific processing engines as great novelties: one dedicated to the OLED screen and another to accelerate artificial intelligence tasks; According to the company, “it is our most powerful neural engine, capable of performing 38 trillion operations per second and helping users perform AI tasks quickly on iPad Pro.”

Mid-range tablets

Apple has presented two more iPads Air. In this update of its mid-range tablet, it has now included the M2 processor and as a great novelty, as in the Pro, there will be 11 and 13-inch options. While the iPad Pro will go on sale in Spain for a price that starts at 1,199 euros, the iPad Air starts at 699 euros. In both cases, the basic version is 11 inches, Wi-Fi connection and 256 gigabytes of storage; The most advanced models include 5G connection and storage of up to 2 terabytes. The devices can be reserved online starting today in Spain and 28 other countries, and will be sold in stores starting next Wednesday the 15th.

In addition to renewing its range of tablets almost completely—except for the most basic model, which has dropped in price—Apple has also presented new accessories compatible with the new announced models. The Apple Pencil haptic pencil launches a Pro version, sensitive to rotation and with new gestures that include squeezing the pencil to perform actions such as selecting objects in a design program. Renewed versions of the Magic Keyboard have also been presented, a case that includes a keyboard and trackpad to give tablets the same possibilities as a laptop.

The Californian company has accompanied the presentation of the iPad Pro with the announcement of new video editing programs – Final Cut Pro 2 – and music programs – Logic Pro 2 – to which it says it has added “new artificial intelligence functions ”.
