The four-time world champion and current Olympic champion in triple jump, Yulimar Rojas, will miss the Olympic Games due to an injury to the Achilles tendon in her left leg. The Venezuelan athlete herself was the one who announced her withdrawal from Paris 2024 this Friday, through a statement. In the same text, Rojas said that she is already in the recovery process, after having surgery this Thursday in Madrid.

“With a lot of pain and sadness I want to tell you that, while training, I had intense pain that resulted in an injury to the left Achilles tendon. My heart is also broken and I want to apologize for not being able to represent them in Paris 2024″, read the statement that the Venezuelan posted on her social networks, directed especially towards the followers of her country. Rojas, who also holds the triple jump world record with 15.74 meters, expressed her gratitude to her family and her work team for accompanying her at this time.

Last September, the athlete ruled out participating in the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile to focus on her preparation for Paris 2024, where she hoped to renew the gold and defend her world record, which she established in the previous Olympic event. “The desire to defend my Olympic title excited me enormously, but today I have to stop, understand this, recover and come back with great strength to continue flying together,” said the Venezuelan athlete.
