Wonka director praises Timothée Chalamet’s voice and says he is a great singer

Timothée Chalamet is a young actor who has gained recognition in recent years for his performances in films such as Interstellar – 71%, Call Me By Your Name – 97%, Lady Bird – 97%, Beautiful Boy: You will always be my son – 53% and Duna – 75%, among many others, but one skill that has not been exploited with the same intensity is singing, and the director of Wonka assures that he has great talent.

Paul King is in charge of directing Wonkathe new prequel to Roald Dahl’s classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which is about the origins of the flamboyant Willy Wonka. Chalamet was chosen to bring to life the character who in the past has been played by Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp.

As in previous adaptations of this story, Wonka will be full of songs, and in an interview with Total Film (via The Hollywood Reporter), King promises that we will see the singing talent of Chalamet, whom he compared to Bing CrosbyAmerican singer who influenced artists such as Frank Sinatra, Perry Como and Dean Martin.

Although it will have songs, King does not consider Wonka to be a musical

The Oompa Loompas sing a lot in the book and Dahl always uses poetry. But he didn’t want it to simply become a musical where people sing dialogue to each other for no discernible reason. I felt like it was more of a movie with songs than a musical.

This is not the first time that the filmmaker praises the actors of WonkaWell, in an interview with Rolling Stone He revealed that he always wanted Chalamet as the protagonist after learning about his musical performances on YouTube:
