Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday paid tributes to Sri Sri Harichand Thakur, the spiritual leader of the politically important Matua community in the state, on his 212th birth anniversary. Also Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated the community on the occasion of Matua Maha Mela being organized to celebrate the occasion.
PM Modi said in a tweet that I bow down to Sri Sri Harichand Thakur ji on his birth anniversary. His role in removing disparity and furthering harmony is unique. He further said that spiritual master Sri Sri Harichand Thakur emphasized on social justice and worked for further education among the people. We will continue to work to fulfill his ideals.
On the other hand, CM Mamta Banerjee called on Twitter to work towards a society free from divisive thoughts. He said that today, on his birth anniversary, I pay tribute to the great Sri Sri Harichand Thakur. Dedicating his life to educating and uplifting the underprivileged, he set an example for all of us. Let us resolve to work towards an egalitarian society free from divisive thoughts.
