Jonas Vingegaard was discharged from hospital this Tuesday, after having spent 12 days in the Álava University Hospital, where he was recovering from the serious accident suffered during the Itzulia, the Tour of the Basque Country. The Visma team made public the news of the departure of the Danish cyclist, who posed at the door of the hospital with a smile, his arm in a sling and his thumb up.

“I want to thank all the medical staff for taking such good care of me and I want to thank everyone for their moral support,” said Vingegaard, who highlighted all the messages of support and gifts he has received during his time hospitalized.

The Dane was one of the cyclists most affected by the fall during the fourth stage of the Itzulia on April 4. The accident caused him to fracture his collarbone and several ribs, in addition to leaving him with a collapsed lung and a muscle contusion. This in a mishap that affected a dozen more runners, including two other big favorites: the Slovenian Primoz Roglic, leader at that time, and the Belgian Remco Evenepoel.
