“It is very difficult to see that kind of hands hidden by the player’s body.” This is Iturralde González’s verdict on the controversial play in the Euro 2000 match between France and Portugal. The referee recalls that the referee of that match, Günter Benko, could do little from his position, unlike the assistant referee: “He is brave and corrects the referee, who had called a corner.”
