Venezuelan Gleyber Torres dressed as a hero in the New York Yankees’ comeback victory over the Boston Red Sox in the first game of a doubleheader scheduled at Boston’s Fenway Park between the historic rivals.
In a first meeting that was 2-3 in favor of the New Yorkers, Torres drove in two runs thanks to a decisive hit. In the second game, which was 1-4 in favor of the Bronx Bombers, Torres would also contribute a run thanks to a bases-loaded grounder in the sixth inning, as well as an RBI single in the ninth inning.
New York entered the game with a 1-8 record against the Red Sox on the year. The New York team hadn’t swept a doubleheader at Fenway since August 18, 2006.
Torres now has seven runs produced in eight games during the month of September.
For Boston, Dominican Rafael Devers went 1-for-4, with a run scored and another RBI. Venezuelan Wilyer Abreu 3-1.
In the second game, for the Yankees, Dominican Estevan Florial went 1 for 3 with an RBI, while Torres went 2 for 4 with one run scored and one RBI.
