Two Wisconsin police officers were killed Saturday during a traffic stop after an exchange of gunfire with a driver.the authorities reported.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice reported that a Chetek city officer conducted a traffic stop before 3:40 pm local time in the town of Cameron.
In the middle of the stop, there was an exchange of fire in which the officer was hit by a bullet, as well as a local Cameron agent, both being pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, the driver involved in the shooting had to be transported to a hospital, where he died of his injuries, Fox News reported.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice specified in a press release that the state’s Department of Criminal Investigation is leading the shooting investigation along with the Barron County Sheriff’s Office.
In addition, the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the Wisconsin State Patrol, the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory, and a DCI are collaborating. Barron County after the investigation is complete.
Different police agencies in Wisconsin expressed their condolences after the death of the two police officers, sending different messages of solidarity on their social networks.
“It is with a heavy heart that we send our thoughts and prayers to the Cameron Village Police Department, the City of Chetek Police Department, the Barron County community, and the families of two officers lost in the line of duty today. . Rest easy, we have the watch from here,” the Hudson Police Department said on its Twitter account.
