Two juveniles were arrested in connection with a triple homicide of teenagers in rural Florida last week.the police reported this Friday.
Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods stated that the victims and suspects knew each other before the fateful outcome, and that they participated in robberies before the violent event.
“There is no honor among thieves” Woods pointed out. “At some point, these three individuals turned on our three victims and murdered them.”
He also promised that they would catch a third assailant, who is currently on the run, the New York Post reported.
The first victim was identified as Layla Silvernail, a prominent 16-year-old softball player who was found dead after being thrown on the side of a road on March 30.
Subsequently, Camille Quarles, also 16, was discovered in a trunk of Silvernail’s car, while a 17-year-old boy, who was discovered the next morning on a road, has yet to be identified.
Although the police refused to detail the events chronologicallynoted that the six minors were together in Silvernail’s car.
Woods said a witness heard the shots and that all three people probably died at the same time.
The three suspects were identified as Robert Robinson, 17, Christopher Atkins, 12 and Tahj Brewton, the latter remains a fugitive at the moment.
Woods testified that the suspects and victims were associated with gangs and participated in other crimes together before the fatal outcome.
The sheriff used the press conference to criticize calls for stricter gun laws, and argued that these do not prevent crimes.
“The gun laws that we have in place didn’t stop it,” Woods said. “Nor the new ones. Because here is the fact. The bad guy will get the gun regardless of the laws in force.”
