Two people were arrested after an operation around the discovery of 35 kidnapped immigrants, while one of the drivers who transported them was found deadaccording to the San Luis Potosí State Attorney General’s Office (FGESLP), in central Mexico.
The Prosecutor’s Office explained in a statement that after a deployment that had the support of the air and land forces in the city of Matehuala, in San Luis Potosí, they rescued “dozens of people deprived of their liberty, including an important number of migrants of foreign nationality”.
Also, two people were taken into custody, while several vehicles with reports of theft were collectedas well as weapons of various calibers, reported the EFE news agency.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the main criminal acts that occurred in the area could be attributable to a criminal group that operates in Doctor Arroyo, in the state of Nuevo León and the limits of San Luis Potosí.
The FGESLP specified that they are not kidnapped tourists, as reported on Wednesday, but of people in transit who were not with a residence permit in Mexico
One of the drivers from the state of Guanajuato was located by the authorities, while the driver of the other van of the company that rented the two vehicles was found dead, and according to reports, he would have died from blows that were applied to him, but he was determined by an autopsy.
One of the vehicles was with 12 immigrants plus the driverwhile in the other was the other driver and three more people according to investigations.
The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) had reported on Thursday that 23 alleged tourists were kidnapped in Matehuala when they were traveling in two trucks from Guanajuato to Saltillo, Coahuila, they were actually immigrants.
However, the SSPC clarified that it was about two different events, since on Wednesday the government of San Luis Potosí reported that 16 people from the states of Mexico, Querétaro and Guanajato, were also heading to Saltillo, Coahuila.
Meanwhile, on Thursday the FGESLP and the Guanajuato government announced the discovery of 35 kidnapped immigrants who could be part of the group of people denounced as kidnapped a couple of days ago.
In the recent case, the Prosecutor’s Office said that most of these immigrants were going to be transported by labor migration after being interviewed by the authorities.
The FGESLP only limited itself to stating that there were two groups of immigrants, while the Guanajuato government reported that the number rose to 35, 31 of them coming from Central American countries and four from Mexico.
