He is 48 years old and his body is full of stitches. He underwent surgery on his right ankle after retiring from the last Masters and has only competed since then in the Hero World Challenge this past December (18th position) and in the Genesis in February (withdrawal due to illness). But Tiger Woods still dreams that he can win another Masters. “If everything goes well, I think I can get one more,” said El Tigre this Tuesday.

Woods will play in Augusta without his Nike uniform, breaking his union with the company after a 27-year marriage and 500 million profits for the golfer, now dressed in his own clothing line, a Tiger with 15 stripes (for his 15 grand ) As a symbol. In this Masters he will seek the record of 24 cuts made in the tournament, one more than Gary Player and Fred Couples. He is number 959 in the world rankings, but the five-time holder of the green jacket remains the biggest myth in golf.

“My practice sessions are not like they used to be. I spent the day on the practice court and with the short game. It can’t be like that anymore, but I want to continue playing and the Masters means a lot to me and my family,” says Woods. Since the traffic accident that almost cost him his right leg in February 2021, his appearances in a tournament are very rare. Not even that modest goal of playing a championship a month seems very real now. El Tigre, however, fights against reality: “I love to compete. I started playing golf when I was nine months old and played my first tournament when I was five years old. I owe everything to golf.”
