Three terraces for all budgets this summer | News from Madrid

As soon as you step out of the Madrid metro, on the weekend there are only two options: to believe or not to believe. At Madrid Te Enreda we always choose to believe.

Summer is romanticized in books and movies because it’s the time when anyone can let themselves go. It’s the time for summer love, for going about things more lightly, and for sleeping later and worse. By September we’ll be worrying about getting back to normal.

For now, to start enjoying the air, we bring you three terraces for all types of public and budgets. In all of them you can enjoy the Madrid night under the stars, if only to believe a little in the magic of summer.

A terrace in Limbo

The Terrace of The House on Fire (Ronda de Valencia, 2) is one of the most unique spaces that can be found between Lavapiés and Arganzuela. It is a natural garden located on a rooftop with views and a cafeteria, a place of peace in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city. During the day, many students, professionals and tourists come here, but the place becomes a lively meeting point at nightfall. The perfect plan for a weekend with friends.

What matters most is what happens closer to home. To make sure you don’t miss anything, subscribe.

This summer, the doors of its terrace will be opened again at dusk. Specifically, it will do so from July 5 to August 31 so that those who come can see films and open-air concerts on Fridays and Saturdays. “We seek to propose a space of transition through various dimensions of existence and the afterlife. Films and live performances that reflect deeply on human nature,” say the organisers. The cheapest tickets cost four euros.

This summer, the terrace has a film programme on Fridays, which seeks to delve into concepts such as life after death, mourning, borders and memories. And on Saturdays there will be concerts with sounds from different corners of the world, from Nairobi to ancient Arabia. From 10 euros.

The mountains of Galicia (Calle de Azcona, 46) is a restaurant hidden behind the Las Ventas bullring that has the title of number one on the TripAdvisor recommendations platform. Its terrace is ideal for having a few drinks in the neighborhood this summer. They have a gin and tonic made with Padrón peppers that is a favorite among their customers.

“We have many American customers who recommend us in their countries and even come with a clear idea of the dishes they want to try,” explains Daniel Espasandín, second generation manager of the restaurant.

The restaurant has been open since 1997 and the key to its success, they say, is the quality of its raw materials and the meticulous attention to detail that makes every visit a unique experience.

You should order the octopus, the sea bass tiradito and the cod fritters as a starter. For the main course, we suggest you try the hake lasagna and the Iberian pork. To finish, try a lemon sorbet.

A new clandestine experience has taken over, until July 25, the secret rooftop of Four Seasons Hotel Madrid. This proposal is designed to enjoy summer nights in the best speakeasies style, the clandestine bars where alcohol was served during the 1920s, during the prohibition period. “When summer comes, people are always looking for terraces, so we decided to join forces with the hotel spa and open a secret space once a week where you can have a cocktail,” says the director of Isa, Camille Sirault.

The experience takes place every Thursday from 9:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., starting at the entrance of the ISA restaurant as a meeting point. From there, participants are guided by the ISA team on a clandestine adventure to reach the secret rooftop and enjoy incomparable views of Madrid. “I loved the detail of the key, because you get into the game as you walk through the hotel,” said one of the attendees on Thursday.

Once there, customers can enjoy a very relaxed atmosphere and celebrate the summer nights with three cocktails designed especially for the occasion by ISA’s Head Bartender, Miguel Pérez, who was inspired by the sky of Madrid.

For end the night with a flourish At the restaurant, located on the first floor, you can dine on the most exquisite Asian delicacies. It is recommended to order the raw sushi selection or the tasting menu. And don’t leave without trying some of their mochis.
