The group stage of the Basketball World Cup came to an end. The 16 classified to the second round are already known and the groups that will form for this previous phase before the direct confrontations of the quarterfinals.
Undoubtedly, this first phase of the championship left several surprises, among them the elimination in the group phase of France, a team that was in third place last tournament.
In this second stage of the tournament, groups of 4 teams are put together again, although this time only two matches per team will be played, since they will not face the teams that previously shared a group. In addition, the points that they accumulated in the first round continue to be taken. This is how the groups of the second round remained.
Group I
The Dominican Republic and Italy as classified from group A and Serbia and Puerto Rico from group B. The Dominicans open against their counterpart from Puerto Rico on September 1, the same day the Europeans will face each other. On September 3 the group closes with Italy vs. Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic vs. Serbian. The first two of the group, taking into account the points of the first round, advance to the final phase.
Group J
The strong United States advanced undefeated in their group giving a true display of good play. In this second phase they will have to face Montenegro on the first date and Lithuania on the second. The fourth member of this group is Greece.
Group K
Without a doubt Luka Doncic was the figure of the Slovenian team, which will now have to face Australia and Germany in this phase. Georgia for its part, one of the surprises of the tournament, will face off against strong Germany and Australia in this difficult group.
Group L
The last group of this second phase is made up of a strong Canada, the current champion Spain, Brazil and the surprise of the Latvia tournament. And there will only be room for two of these four teams in the direct elimination phase.
