The film “Blonde”, a biopic about Marilyn Monroe, leads the 43rd edition of the Razzie Awards, also known as the “anti-Oscars” because they distinguish the worst films of each year, with eight nominations this Monday.
The film directed by Andrew Dominik and starring the Spanish-Cuban Ana de Armas was selected in some of the most relevant categories, such as worst film, worst director or worst script, announced the Golden Raspberry Awards foundation, which organizes these awards.
Along with “Blonde”, the shortlist of five candidates for worst film is made up of “Pinocchio”, directed by Robert Zemeckis, “Morbius” (Daniel Espinosa), “Good Mourning” (Machine Gun Kelly and Mod Sun) and “The King´ s Daughter” (Sean McNamara).
Ana de Armas, who was nominated this year for the Golden Globes for her performance, was not the subject of these comic awards in which anyone who pays their subscription can be part of the foundation and vote.
After “Blonde”, the most ridiculed production of the year was “Morbius”, which obtained 5 nominations -including the one for worst film- with Jared Leto as the candidate for worst leading actor, a section in which he will compete with Tom Hanks and his role as Geppetto in the Disney movie “Pinocchio”.
Disney premiered its new version of “Pinocchio”, the work of Zemeckis, three months before Netflix launched its own adaptation directed by the Mexican Guillermo del Toro, who has already won the Golden Globe and is a firm Oscar candidate in the category of animation for this tape.
Rapper Machine Gun Kelly for “Good Mourning,” the voice of comedian Pete Davidson in “Mamarduke” and Sylvester Stallone as the hero in “Samaritan” were also singled out by the Razzies as the season’s worst actors.
In the female version of this section are Bryce Dallas Howard (“Jurassic Park: Dominion”), Diane Keaton (“Mack and Rita”), Ryan Kiera Armstrong (“Firestarter”), Kaya Scodelario (“The Ring’s Daughter”) and Alicia Silverstone (“The Requin”).
In the category of worst supporting actor, the name of Hanks appears again, this time embodying Colonel Tom Parker in the acclaimed “Elvis” where, according to the organization, he was “laden with latex and with a ridiculous accent.”
The Razzie awards, controversial within the Hollywood industry due to their pejorative nature, include other sections among their categories, such as worst on-screen combo or worst “remake” or sequel.
The name of the foundation that awards these awards comes from the phrase in English “blowing a raspberry”, which refers to the sound of a snort made to show that a work is of poor quality. In this case, as a mockery of the American film industry.
Its first edition was in 1981 and its delivery, which this year will take place on March 11, always coincides with the eve of the Oscars.
