Almost two and a half hours after Luis Rubiales announced his resignation, the statement from the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) arrived. A brief statement “confirms that Luis M. Rubiales Béjar has presented his resignation tonight and has made this known to the federative entity through a letter to Pedro Rocha Junco.” In addition, he has also resigned from his position as vice president of UEFA.

From now on, once the leader’s resignation has been consummated, “the procedure described in article 31.8 of the current federative statutes begins.” And that article indicates that the board of directors “will be constituted as a Management Commission and will call elections to fill the position.”
That is, “whoever is elected will occupy the position for a period equal to the time remaining to be fulfilled by the person replaced”, so the election of the new leader will be until 2024.
