The last chapter in the soap opera based in the Las Rozas Football City leaves the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) composed and without a boyfriend. The electoral commission has admitted the challenge of the process, in accordance with the request of Miguel Galán, president of the Cenafe coaching school and the man who has proposed to change the course within the body that governs Spanish football. And decapitate him. Pedro Rocha, investigated since last Friday in what is known as Operation Brodie, still cannot be proclaimed president. Galán’s movement, which challenges the elections because it considers that the guarantees presented by Rocha are not valid, either because “they have expired”, or because “they were obtained in an alleged electoral fraud”, puts a stop to the process and opens a new period : April 26, the deadline indicated in the electoral calendar and by when the case should have been resolved. By then it will be necessary to see if Rocha is appointed, stalked as he is by justice and by administrative means.
The challenge adds spice and uncertainty to the situation. But there are more ways to surround Rocha and his trusted people. The Court of Arbitration for Sport has initiated disciplinary proceedings against Rocha and the entire management committee for a very serious infraction. The origin is another complaint from Miguel Galán, who accuses him of having exceeded his duties as “interim” president and of delaying the electoral call. The TAD resolution in this regard has been sent this Monday to the Higher Sports Council (CSD), which is analyzing the 39 pages of which the document consists “to define the next steps”, according to sources from the Council informed this newspaper. While the possible disqualification of Rocha and the rest of the members of the federation who made up its hard core after surviving the Rubiales crisis and the ultimate effect of Operation Brodie are being studied, the RFEF remains directionless and without a visible head. nor anyone capable of signing a single contract to move forward on a day-to-day basis.
During the recently opened electoral process, Rocha had no opposition. No other candidate for the presidency of the Federation managed to gather enough endorsements (21) to officially present his candidacy in the elections that will cover the current Olympic cycle. And Rocha, with a display of massive support from the world of football (he presented 107 endorsements), proclaimed himself the winner and president until next October or November, when he should call elections again. Rocha’s official proclamation, however, did not occur this Monday, as planned. Galán had already warned that he would challenge the process by considering that forty assembly members should have been renewed first (in total there must be 140) who had lost their status by being discharged or having lost their federation record, cases for example of Luis Enrique or Jorge Vilda, former coaches who now work outside Spain. He has done so. And the outcome of the elections is still up in the air. Like the future of the federation itself, watched from a distance by the CSD and FIFA.
