To really enjoy this video, you don’t need a high technical level. The direct and very violent attacks against the king are extremely attractive, almost addictive, even for beginners. And the one glossed here is as spectacular as it is surprising and didactic; for example, on the important issue of the coincidence – sometimes very hidden – of the radius of action of two or more pieces.

Very little is known about the author of this work of art, the Russian Yevgeny Vorobiov. He qualified for the 2011 World Cup, and was eliminated on the first try by someone who has already been to the Corner of the Immortals, the Israeli Emil Sutovsky. But his enormous tactical virtuosity remains beyond doubt. As happens so many times – especially with the games of world champion Mijaíl Tal – today’s computers say that the sacrifices in this game are not winners in the face of a perfect defense. But what does that matter when the players are human and create so much beauty?
