The ChatGPT robot is the subject of two lawsuits in France

The conversational bot ChatGPT has been the subject of at least two lawsuits in France, filed by associations denouncing alleged abuses regarding the use of personal datathe plaintiffs informed AFP on Wednesday.

The Italian government decided on Friday to ban the service, accused of not respecting the legislation on personal data and of lacking a system to verify the age of minor users.

One of the complaints in France was filed by a lawyer, Zoé Villain, president of Janus International, an association that campaigns to warn about the challenge of cybersecurity.

“We are not anti-technology, but we want ethical technology,” he declared.

Villain explained that after signing up for the service, created by the Californian company OpenAI, he quickly found that there were no “general conditions of use” or “a confidentiality policy.”

After trying unsuccessfully to clarify the situation with OpenAI, he filed his claim with the French agency that monitors respect for personal information.

Another complaint was filed by David Libeau, a creator of computer applications who also battles for the respect of privacy.

When asked for information about himself, “the algorithm began to wander and attribute the creation of websites and organizing online protests to me, which is totally false,” Libeau wrote in his complaint.
