The Administrative Court of Sport has banned Pedro Rocha, current president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, from holding office in any sports federation for two years. The body, attached to the High Council of Sports, has also imposed a fine of 30,000 euros on Rocha, just two days after the victory of the Spanish team in the European Championship, it announced on Tuesday.
The TAD was investigating an abuse of authority by Pedro Rocha when he made a series of decisions as president of the federation’s Management Committee, after the resignation of Luis Rubiales, which did not correspond to him due to his interim status. These proven facts are: dismissing the general secretary of the RFEF, Andreu Camps; rescinding the contract with GC Legal, the law firm of Tomás González Cueto, then right-hand man of former president Luis Rubiales; and appearing as a private prosecutor in the Majadahonda court in the case derived from the so-called Operation Brodie – of corruption in business, disloyal administration and membership of a criminal organization –, which also affects Rocha himself, accused along with Rubiales and González Cueto.
Finally, the two-year sanction was imposed on Rocha for the dismissal of Andreu Camps, having carried it out as a personal decision and not having taken it jointly with the other members of the Management Committee. The other two decisions were subsequently referred to the aforementioned committee and therefore the six years proposed by the instructor have been reduced to only two, although they have also been subject to a financial sanction.
