A survey by Slickdeals, a platform where shoppers rate and share online deals and coupons from major retailers, found that despite concerns about inflation and rising freight costs, 84% of families plan to spend the same amount or more on summer travel this year than they did last year.
The study conducted among 1,000 American parents found that 42% will spend between $1,501 and $3,000 on travel this summerwhile 15% reported plans to allocate more than $5,000.
However, the main concerns that could affect families traveling this summer include:
– The inflation, 56%
– The increase in cost of flights51%
– The cost of gasoline, 49%
In fact, the survey found that the most important consideration when booking a trip is the total cost of the tripwith 81%; followed by experiences for children in the destination, 78%; and discounts/offers on transportation and lodging, with 75%.
75% said they normally travel domestically during the summerbeing the most popular means of transport the car (73%), followed by flights (57%).
20% of respondents plan to book their tickets, hotels and experiences for summer travel in April, while 34% will wait until May-June.
Parents hope to avoid hungry passengers, so they consider snacks to be the most important thing to take when traveling with children (82%). Other essentials include personal care items (71%), electronics (67%), medications (62%), and toys/games (60%).
What is striking is that 42% of those surveyed stated that they have turned around after leaving on a trip because they forgot something important at home.
