The suspect in a series of assaults in Brooklyn over the weekend where an 83-year-old Hispanic man died turned himself in to the authorities this Mondayaccording to police sources.

The subject identified as Joevani Vale, 26, who was being sought by the authorities after killing the elderly Ramón Cintrón in a house on Saturday, turned himself in at the Maimonides Medical Center, sources told the newspaper. New York Post.

The sources told the aforementioned outlet that he appeared to be drugged when he surrendered to the authorities, but did not present any injuries.

Vale was under investigation after unleashing a stabbing spree on Saturday, allegedly randomly striking a 47-year-old woman. He also stabbed a 31-year-old woman, and subsequently chased Cintrón into the elevator of a public housing complexwhere he was killed, according to police and sources.

Cintrón was pronounced dead at the scene, while Vale fled the scene and remained a fugitive until Monday.

A neighbor, whose identity he preferred not to reveal, told the new york daily news that the circumstances of Cintron’s death were unmerited.

“He is a quiet man. He liked going out, he liked going to the store. Just a good old man”said the neighbor. “It hurt me a lot to hear about this. I don’t know why this happened to him. He didn’t deserve that.”

For his part, a local manager of a delicatessen store supported the previous statements, and highlighted the virtues of the octogenarian.

“He was cheerful and joked a lot. I thought of him as a grandfather to me. Everybody loved him.”said the manager of Papa Firo Delicatessen, who did not reveal his identity.

Vale, who had at least three previous arrests, comes from being arrested in 2020 for cutting Isaac Alvarez, then fleeing, being charged with assault and pleading guilty.

The subject avoided being behind bars in exchange for receiving a mental health treatment programin which he spent 13 months, prosecutors said.
