The remodeling of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, owned by Real Madrid, began in 2019 but it is only at the start of the 2023-2024 season that the impressiveness of the new structure begins to be seen. This Monday, a video on the team’s social networks showed one of the most surprising characteristics: its ability to retract the grass and hide it under the ground.
In a compilation video that, although it brings together some new functions available in the stadium, Real Madrid focuses mainly on showing how the grass can be removed so that the stadium becomes a multiple entertainment center.
“The retractable grass of the Bernabéu, like you’ve never seen it before,” wrote the X account (formerly Twitter), in material that has accumulated more than 100,000 likes.
The function will allow that when shows are held such as the one that will open the stadium on May 30, 2024, where the White House will receive one of the final shows of Taylor Swift’s world tour, the field of play does not suffer any damage at the moment where fans or the platform rests on the grass.
As if that were not enough, the video also shows some details such as the operation of the new roof (also removable) that will seek to regulate the temperature in cold climates or prevent the passage of rain.
Although initially the investment in the stadium was appraised at around $530 million dollars, new reports ensure that by the time the work is completed 100% its value will increase to more than $1,000 million dollars.
