Professional wrestling legend and industry influencer “Superstar” Billy Graham passed away Wednesday at the age of 79.
Graham had been in failing health for decades and was placed on life support in recent days. He had been hospitalized for several months, dealing with an infection and organ failure that required emergency surgery earlier this month, according to his wife, Valerie.
She said in a Facebook post Monday that doctors wanted to take her off life support, but she refused.
He was one of the most charismatic wrestlers and influential figures of all time in the business. Hulk Hogan, Jesse Ventura, Scott Steiner, Steve Austin, Dusty Rhodes, Vince McMahon, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, Ric Flair and others took notes from the “Superstar” book.
“He became the prototype of what people thought the charismatic superstar could be,” Dave Meltzer said of the wrestler.
