The Spanish strategist Rubén de la Barrera officially became the new technical director of the El Salvador national team this Tuesdayafter the Salvadoran Football Federation made the contract official.

Through a brief message on social networks, the federative entity announced the arrival of de la Barrera to the bench of the Central American team, directly replacing Hugo Pérez who had agreed to terminate his contract a few days ago.

“Congratulations! Rubén de la Barrera new coach of @LaSelecta_SLV”, was part of the message that the federation published through X (formerly Twitter).

Later they declared that they were happy and expectant about the new future of the team, which is eager for positive results.

“We are excited by the arrival of this talented Spanish coach. May this new stage bring success and an exciting game for our team,” they added.

lThe Football Federation did not announce whether the A Coruña coach will be presented to the mediaor if you are already in the Central American country.

De la Barrera has an extensive sports resume directing division and second division B teams in Spain, such as Deportivo La Coruña, Albacete or Cultural Leonesa, as well as boasting of having directed in Qatar and Romania.

The agreement with de la Barrera was reached after the termination of the contract with Hugo Pérez was negotiated on September 11 due to lack of results.

The El Salvador team spent more than a year without achieving a victory, the last one had been in June 2022; 13 games in total where they lost to direct rivals such as Nicaragua, Guatemala and Martinique in different competitions.

Since its arrival in April 2021 Pérez’s match record ended in nine wins, 12 draws and 22 lossescompeting in the final qualifying phase for the Qatar 2022 World Cup and finishing in seventh position.
