Now it is time for another ambitious project and Monteverde takes inspiration from Francesca Cabrini, 19th century Italian nun, prominent religious and Catholic missionary who founded the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Throughout her life, she tirelessly devoted herself to caring for Italian immigrants in the United States and founded numerous schools, hospitals, and orphanages to serve communities in need. Cabrini she became the first American citizen canonized by the Catholic Church in 1946, becoming known as Saint Francesca Cabrini, and her legacy lives on in the charitable and educational work her congregation continues to do around the world. Through her willpower, courage, compassion, and business savvy, she overcame sexism and violent anti-Italian bigotry while fighting an establishment that sought to rein her in.

Liz Ellisdirector of operations of Angel Studios, also shared statements about the impressive figure of Cabrini:

Francesca Cabrini is one of the most inspiring and influential figures in modern history, and yet few know her story. Faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles in her life, Cabrini decided to focus on how she could change the status quo of her time, and her impact on the world is still felt today. We’re thrilled to be able to share her incredible story in theaters this spring. This will be our second collaboration with Sound of Freedom director Alejandro Monteverde, and Angel Guild gave this film even higher marks than Sound of Freedom. Our community has high expectations for this project.

Religious figures, alternative inspiration

Angel Studios focuses mostly on distributing religious content. Portraying the lives of people of faith who fought for social causes through cinema allows us to spread and preserve the memory of inspiring individuals who dedicated their days to serving those most in need. This can serve as a powerful reminder of the capacity of people of faith to do good in the world and motivate others to follow their example. In addition, these films cooperate by highlighting the social problems that these religious people addressed, such as poverty, injustice, discrimination and inequality, thus raising awareness of these problems and promoting social change. Film has the potential to reach a wide and diverse audience, making it an effective tool for education and inspiration on issues of social justice and civic engagement.

By watching the struggles and triumphs of people devoted to religion, audiences can perhaps better understand the ethical and moral dilemmas they faced and, in turn, reflect on their own role in promoting social causes. Ultimately, cinema can be a powerful tool for conveying universal human and religious values, encouraging people to act for justice and the well-being of humanity.
