The Serbian Novak Djokovic continues with a firm step in the ATP US Open and issued a warning to his rivals after achieving an incredible comeback this Friday night against his compatriot Laslo Djere, number 38 in the world.
The second best tennis player in the world at the moment managed to recover from a defeat two sets against and indicated in the press conference after the match that these types of victories are a warning for their opponents in the US Open.
“I think the message it sends to the rest is that obviously I’m still capable of playing five sets late into the night. Coming back from two sets always sends a strong message to future opponents.” the Serb pointed out in the press conference collected by ESPN.
“At the same time, I don’t really want to be in this position, to be honest. I prefer a win in three sets. Hopefully I can go back to that path in the next game.”clarified the tennis player who will dethrone the Spanish Carlos Alcaráz from the first place in the ATP ranking at the end of this tournament, whatever happens.
After apparently finding himself against the ropes, Djokovic defeated Djere in the third round of the US Open and qualified for the round of 16, where Nole will face off against Croatian Borna Gojo (105).
Djokovic defeated Djere 4-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, 6-3 in three hours and 45 minutes in a match that ended after 1:30 a.m. in New York.
