The former president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, confessed in an exclusive interview with Piers Morgan that his kiss with Jennifer Hermoso was a moment of happiness and free of any “sexual content.”
This Monday new parts of said interview were revealed, in which Rubiales indicates: “It was a very happy moment, a celebration, a moment of euphoria. My intentions were noble, enthusiastic, 100% non-sexual, 100%, I repeat, 100%. There was no harm, no sexual content, no aggression, none of that.“.
In addition to making clear the meaning of the unfortunate kiss: “The meaning of the kiss to Jenni would have been exactly the same as that of a kiss to one of my daughters. Among friends and family, that is very, very common.”
“I made a mistake, I apologize, but let’s be clear: under no circumstances is this a sexual assault. I have complete confidence that the truth will come to light and everything will be fine.. Look at my face, I’m a good guy,” he acknowledged when talking about his mistake.
Regarding the gesture he made in the box, Rubiales also tries to clarify his performance “This makes me very ashamed… There are no excuses. In Spain, with both men and women, there is an expression that would probably translate into something like ‘olé, my eggs’ or something like that. This vulgar expression basically means: bravo, well done. “I apologize because it is not the behavior I should have had.”
UN spokesperson spoke
António Guterres, Secretary General of the UN, said through his spokesman: “It’s good to see that there are accountability mechanisms” regarding the case of Luis Rubiales, who on Sunday presented his resignation as president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
UN spokesman Farhan Haq commented: “The type of attitudes we had to see are unacceptable”said in reference to the non-consensual kiss that Rubiales gave to the player Jenni Hermoso – captain of the Spanish team – after the final of the Women’s Soccer World Cup in Australia.

And then he added: “It’s good to see that there are accountability mechanisms”.
The case of Luis Rubiales has sparked unprecedented media attention around the world and his resignation on Sunday was front-page news in the main media outlets.
