Rubiales confirms the inclusion of Ukraine in the candidacy for the 2030 World Cup: “Today the candidacy is not Iberian, it is European” | Sports | The USA Print

Luis Rubiales, president of the Spanish Football Federation, explained to the media the inclusion of Ukraine in the candidacy of Spain and Portugal to host the 2030 World Cup. The Spanish president went to the UEFA headquarters in Nyon together with his Portuguese counterpart, Fernando Gomes, both vice-presidents of UEFA, and Andriy Pavelko, also president of the Ukrainian federation. Gomes has been the one who has confirmed that the negotiations with the country currently at war have lasted for the last few months and Rubiales has added the new name of the candidacy: “Today the candidacy is not Iberian, it is already European”.

No organizational details have been given about which venues each country will have or how many matches will be played in Ukraine. The presidents trust that this decision will provide the necessary impetus to confirm the candidacy as the great favorite to host the great event. “All governments and all football people will support this candidacy,” said Rubiales. FIFA has not yet published the conditions for the applicants or when the final decision will be made, but at the moment, the Iberian candidacy is the one with the most advanced application and with the inclusion of Ukraine, it hopes to give it the final push.
