The 2023 New York Mets season was a disaster, The Queens team was the franchise that invested the most in its payroll for this course. However, this investment was not reflected in the team’s performance during the campaign.
Given this situation, the owner of the organization Steve Cohen, has publicly expressed his intention to make structural changes to the team. Among those that stand out is hiring a president of operations for the next season.
This president of operations would be above current general manager Billy Eppler. And he would help the franchise achieve the season’s objectives and follow up on each of its tasks and processes.

As for the person who will occupy this new position within the Mets, several sources, including the New York Post, claim that Cohen has already decided on a name. This is David Stearns, who was general manager of the Milwaukee Brewers since 2015.
Stearns’ career
David Stearns was born and raised in Manhattan, once he finished his studies at Harvard University he began working in the operations department of the Mets in the Arizona Fall League.
In 2011 he joined the ranks of the Cleveland Guardians, called Indians at the time, as one of the co-directors of operations. Just a year later he was hired by the Houston Astros as an assistant to general manager Jeff Luhnow.
Until in 2015 his great opportunity would arrive and would take over as general manager of the Brewers. During his management, he was responsible for the arrival and subsequent million-dollar extension of Christian Yelich, MVP of the 2019 season.
Since the end of the 2022 season, Stearns has been without a team, and by 2024 he would return to work with a new franchise. According to the New York newspaper report, Dave’s contract with the Queens franchise stipulates a bond for 5 seasons.
