Two people died after a small plane headed for Hawaii crashed into the Pacific Ocean shortly after takeoff from Northern California.as reported by federal officials this Sunday.

The Viking Air DHC-6-400 Twin Otter plane crashed around 2:15 p.m. Saturday in the Pacific Ocean about 40 miles off the coast of Half Moon Bay, California, the National Safety Board reported. in Transportation (NTSB) in a statement.

Half Moon Bay is a coastal community located about 20 miles south of San Francisco.

According to the United States Coast Guard, the plane was found submerged, thus confirming that the pilot and co-pilot suffered fatal injuriesas they were the only people on board, the agency statement said.
