Lamar Jackson, ‘quarterback’ of the Baltimore Ravens, asserted this Thursday that wants to pass for 6,000 yards in the 2023 season to break the NFL mark of 5,477 yards, set by Peyton ManningDenver Broncos legend, in 2013.
“I want to throw for 6,000 yards, I think I can do it. I want to do that because no one has ever done it.”said the passer during the signing of his contract extension for five years with the Ravens in exchange for $ 260 million dollars that made him the highest paid player in league history.
During the offseason the Ravens beefed up the receiving corps to give Jackson more offensive options.
He signed star Odell Beckham Jr., and selected Zay Flowers in the first round of the 2023 Draft; besides, signed offensive coordinator Todd Monken for this season, tools that Lamar says are enough to achieve the 6,000-yard goal.
“I feel like we have the weapons to do it. We have explosive guys who will be 100 percent healthy,” she insisted.
The quarterback, former star of the Louisville Cardinals in college football, explained that despite the time it took him to reach an agreement to continue in the team he never thought of emigrating and stressed his desire to win a championship in Baltimore.
“I wanted to do this, I wanted to be here, other teams are great, but I wanted to be a Raven. I really want to finish my career here and win a Super Bowl,” he said.
Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta joined the 26-year-old quarterback at the signing of the new contract.
“They say that the best things come to those who wait. We waited a while and here we are”explained the manager after the two years it took the Ravens to reach an agreement with the native quarterback of Pompano Beach, Florida.
Lamar Jackson arrived in the league selected by Baltimore in the first round of the 2018 Draft. In his sophomore year he was designated as the Most Valuable Player of the season. Last season he was limited by a sprained knee suffered in Week 13 against the Denver Broncos.
In his five-year career, he has 12,209 yards on 1,055 completions, 101 touchdowns and 38 interceptions. On the ground he boasts 4,437 yards and 24 touchdowns.
