The “Messi effect” is real and it is manifesting itself in the US economy. More than two months after Lionel Messi’s arrival in Major League Soccer (MLS)Fortune magazine published a report on the change in the numbers of various instances in the United States, starting with something as “simple” as the number of Inter Miami followers on social networks.
According to the magazine, the Florida team has at least 14 million followers on its Instagram account, more than any team in the NFL, NHL or Major League Baseball (MLB).. On the other hand, you can start counting the money with the agreements that Messi reached with the sponsors.
“It is difficult to pin down the exact numbers because much of the data is not publicly available or not yet available. But it seems that Messi’s new deal with MLS Inter Miami, for between $50 and $60 million dollarsincludes revenue-sharing agreements with league sponsors Apple and Adidas, and is just the tip of the iceberg,” the business magazine explained.

As for live viewers, ticket prices for Inter Miami matches have also skyrocketed by 1,700%, according to CNBC.
In the match between Inter Miami and the New York Red Bulls, tickets were available starting at $425, reaching a maximum of $50,000 for a VIP ticket. According to Fortune’s calculations, in just two months Lionel Messi has generated at least $265 million in ticket sales.
