The second day of the Euroleague takes place this week on October 9, 10 and 11. Pablo Laso’s Baskonia fell in Belgrade against Estrella Roja 78-71. Madrid won the visit of Partizan 93-86, while Barcelona beat Alba Berlin (88-73).
Pablo Laso’s team fell on the second day of the Euroleague against a Red Star team that was superior almost the entire match. Baskonia was about to surprise in the last quarter, in which they scored 22 points, three more than their rivals. Even so, the late reaction of Laso’s men meant that they could not face Red Star, who was much more accurate and decisive than the Spanish.
Real Madrid beat Partizan at home after losing on the first day against Bayern in Munich. Chus Mateo’s team began tying the first quarter at 24, but managed to go into halftime with a three-point lead. Led by Ibaka (who finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists) and Campazzo, the whites went into the final quarter winning by four. In the last 10 minutes they managed to gain a 17-point lead, but a final bad end to the quarter left them seven ahead of the Serbians.
Barça beat Alba Berlin at the Palau Blaugrana, to celebrate its first victory in the top continental competition, thanks to Darío Brizuela’s scoring explosion (18 points) from the end of the third quarter. The Spanish international was the key for Barça to give its fans its first victory in Europe, after the defeat last week in Kaunas. Joan Peñarroya looked for that turning point, especially in the one and two positions, direction of play that he found with Tomás Satoransky, and artillery with Brizuela.
