The businesswoman and communicator passed away this Sunday Marisol Malaret Contreraswho rose in 1970 as the first Miss Universe from Puerto Rico.
Confirmation of the death of the iconic 73-year-old figure was made by the Puerto Rican newspaper The new daywhich does not provide details on the cause of death.
Born in the municipality of Utuado, Malaret Contreras earned a place in Puerto Rican history by being crowned on July 11, 1970 as the most beautiful woman in the Universe, in the pageant held in Miami, Florida, USA.
After the Miss Universe, she stood out in the area of communications as director of various editorial publications and as a host in television spaces.
In 2017 after being honored with a star at the Puerto Rican Walk of Fame, Malaret Contreras reported that she was moving away from public life: “This is my farewell to the public eye because I am already my age. It is very nice to have the love of a people, but when one wants to grow old and the only thing they remember is that one was a queen beauty and nothing else, it’s a little hard”, He confessed to El Vocero at the time. Since then the figure kept a low profile.
Malaret Contreras is survived by her husband, engineer Frank Cué; her only daughter, screenwriter Sasha Stroman Malaret and her granddaughter Luna.
