The three men convicted of murdering the rapper XXXTentacion in 2018 in Florida they will spend the rest of their lives in a US prison after being sentenced this Thursday to life imprisonment without parole in a Fort Lauderdale court, in the southeast of the state.
The rising rap star, whose real name was Jahseh Onfroy, was just 20 years old when he was shot dead in broad daylight in Deerfield Beach, north of Miami (southeast).
Dedrick Williams, 26, Trayvon Newsome (24) and Michael Boatwright (28) appeared in court to hear their sentence, 16 days after a jury convicted them of murder in the first degree, that is, with premeditation.
Judge Michael A. Usan read the sentence to them and reminded them what it meant: that they will never get out of prison alive. The three condemned men listened to him in silence with hardly any reaction.
On June 18, 2018, an SUV blocked the path of the car of XXXTentacionand two of its occupants shot the rapper before stealing a bag of $50,000 in cash from him and fleeing.
According to the conviction, Boatwright and Newsome came out of the SUV with guns, and it was the first who killed the singer. Williams, for his part, was accused of being the driver of the car and the intellectual author of the assault.
A fourth suspect, Robert Allen, 26, testified against the other three defendants months after pleading guilty to murder second degree, without premeditation, and armed robbery.
At the time of his death, the career of XXXTentacion was beginning to take off after becoming known on the SoundCloud platform. His album “?” he reached number one on the Billboard chart and was gaining a large following with dark songs in which he often spoke of his depression.
The rapper also became known for his criminal record. In 2016 he had been arrested for assaulting a pregnant woman, for illegal detention of persons and witness tampering.
