Kdu dos Anjos: A house in a favela in Brazil wins an international architecture competition | Culture | The USA Print

The prestigious portal archdaily has announced that the house of the artist Kdu dos Anjos, located in a favela in Belo Horizonte, won the award that distinguishes the best constructions in the world. The home is a 66-square-meter brick building located in a narrow alley in Aglomerado da Serra, a slum on the outskirts of Belo Horizonte. The building is the work of the Levante Collective and the works were led by the architects Fernando Maculan and Joana Magalhães. Its main merit is the fusion of academic architecture with the intuitive knowledge of self-construction in the favelas and creative use of simple materials.
