The MMA fighter, Jorge Masvidal, opened up about his passion for boxing in an interview with ‘La Opinión’, in which he He declared himself a fan of the Mexican Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez, whom he sees as “the face” of this sport and one of the best of his generation.

“‘Canelo’ has been the face of boxing for a long time and not because he knows how to speak or give interviews, but because he comes to fight and is violent.”, expressed Masvidal while indicating that the Mexican boxer knows how to provide a show and meet the expectations of the fans.

“I am the same as the man who is working in construction breaking his back and on the weekend wants to forget everything and lose himself in the fight, and ‘Canelo’ does that, he makes you lose yourself in the fight. ‘Canelo’ gives it his all, he is a guy who is training to be a dog, he is a fighting cock. When he enters there (in the ring) it is to kill or be killed. I am always a big fan of ‘Canelo’”he pointed out.

Teófimo López “has potential”

He also referred to the Mexican American David Benavídez and let it be known that he would like to see him in a fight with Saúl Álvares: “I have been watching him for the last six or seven fights and wow, especially the one against Caleb Plant, whom I also follow. But if I’m honest I would like to see Benavídez against Canelo, I think that could be the best fight we have seen in a long time.

Fight between Canelo and Masvidal

On the other hand, Jorge Masvidal was asked about the rumors that arose about a possible boxing match between him and Saúl Álvarez, to which he replied that it never happened because he did not receive an economic offer for it.

“I am not a boxer and if I did, it was because they were giving me a check in between. If they gave me a check to fight Canelo, I do it guaranteed”, commented the American with Latin roots.

He also explained what his strategy would have been in that fight: “I’m not a boxer, so I have to catch it fast, in the first three or four rounds. because Canelo for me is one of the best of our time,” he said.
