Johnny Depp ordered full menu as ‘little treat’, says Birmingham restaurant


Johnny Depp spent £50,000 on “champagne, wine and cocktails” at an Indian restaurant in Birmingham while touring the UK with English guitarist Jeff Beck.

Varanasi, a luxurious Indian restaurant located in the center of the city, revealed to The Independent that the star of Pirates of the Caribbean ordered the full menu as a “little taste” for him and the 21 guests who dined with him.

He confirmed that the restaurant was closed to the public on the night of Depp’s meeting.

Although the restaurant did not confirm the exact amount Depp spent, Hussain told The Independent which typically costs between £15,000 and £20,000 to rent an entire restaurant the size of Varanasi.

Depp also gave “generous tips to staff,” Hussain said.

Speaking about the experience of meeting and serving Depp, the operations manager said: “He was like one of us, he wanted to feel part of our restaurant. There wasn’t a single person he didn’t talk to or hug.”

Hussain added that it was a “once in a lifetime experience” for the Varanasi staff, and that they will remember it “for the rest of our lives.”
