Jesús Navas, Sevilla legend, informed Sevilla officials this morning that he will leave the Andalusian club at the end of this season. The tears of the eternal Sevilla captain when he was substituted in the final stretch of the clash against Cádiz were very significant. Navas informed his teammates last night of his decision and this morning he transmitted it to the rectors of Sevilla. The club has already made it official. The news has caught Sevilla by surprise. The Andalusian club had planned to offer Navas a contract renewal at the end of this season, since next year there will be cuts due to not participating in European competition. Navas has made the decision and has advanced events. At 38 years old, a true legend says goodbye to Sevilla.

The footballer’s entourage assures that Navas does not have any offer to continue playing football, although Sevilla think that he can continue his career in other countries, such as Saudi Arabia, although nothing has been confirmed at this moment. Navas said goodbye in the clash against Cádiz, where he completed 500 games in the League with Sevilla. “Navas is like that and he has made this decision,” emphasize sources close to the footballer.

Navas has played 688 games for Sevilla. 500 in LaLiga, 47 in the Champions League, 65 in the Europa League, 67 in the Copa del Rey, five in the Spanish Super Cup and four in the European Super Cup. He scored a total of 39 goals and 119 assists.

The palatial man will leave Sevilla with an enviable track record, with a total of eight titles: four from the Europa League, two from the Copa del Rey, one from the European Super Cup and another from the Spanish Super Cup. Navas, Sevilla’s greatest legend in capital letters, is leaving the club of his life, where he has played 17 seasons in two stages, interrupted by his time at Manchester City between 2013 and 2017. He says goodbye 21 years after his debut in November 2003 in Montjuic against RCD Espanyol, replacing Paco Gallardo and wearing number 31 on his back.

Navas has broken all records in the Andalusian entity. He is the player with the most titles, with the most matches and the footballer with the most caps and titles with the Spanish team: 51 matches and three titles: World Cup, Euro Cup and Nations League. He is the only European player to win a World Cup, a European Championship and a Nations League. He is also the oldest player to wear the national jersey.

“Sevilla wishes Jesús Navas the best of luck in his new professional challenge, and is grateful for the dedication, professionalism and honesty with which he has defended the Nervionense shirt, of which it has become its greatest emblem,” said the Seville in a statement. The Nervión entity will bid farewell to its great captain with all honors on Sunday, May 26 at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.
