The technical director of the Mexican national team, Jaime Lozano, was quite surprised and happy by the commitment and enthusiasm that the Colombian footballer, Julián Quiñones, has shown. for having been summoned to wear the colors of the Mexican team during the last few days as his preparation process for what will be his naturalization and subsequent defense of the team for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers that will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Quiñones, who currently works as a forward for the Águilas of Club América, has a total of four days along with all those summoned by Lozano to play the double FIFA Date against the Australian and Uzbekistan teams in the CAR, where he has demonstrated his total commitment to supporting the team on its path to try to win the FIFA World Cup.
“I saw him as a child with a new toy (Quiñones), he is happy with this first invitation to train with us, I was interested in accelerating his integration process. The group took it quite well, they supported him like any other, as it should be,” said the Aztecs coach during a press conference prior to their match against Australia this Saturday in the city of Dallas, in the United States.
“We put him as a striker, a midfielder, on the left wing so he can play a little behind the forward, he has great versatility, I met him in the U-20 as a center forward and he has been mutating and adapting, with Furch, now with América with Henry, he is a player who has versatility that can help us in many positions, technically and physically he is very outstanding,” added Lozano in their statements.
At the press conference Jaime Lozano also spoke about Santiago Giménez’s injury in his last game with Feyenoord from the Netherlands; The Aztec suffered a muscle strain and despite the concern of his club coach, he was allowed to travel to Dallas to support the team in its preparation for the Concacaf qualifiers.
“I spoke directly with him at the end of the game, he told me that they valued him and that they told him that there was no problem and he could come, that it was a muscle burden but that it was not a reason not to come. Santi, despite being young, has experience and if he is fit he will have minutes, he knows himself better than anyone and will know if he is one hundred percent ready to play. What we want is to take advantage of that good moment that he is experiencing on his team,” he highlighted.
“Santi is having a good time, he didn’t train Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday either, just yesterday. We knew that we had the entire group on Wednesday due to rest issues. We all know, if he keeps doing what he has been doing, the national team has a high-level forward for many years to come,” he concluded.
