The Spanish Carlos Alcaraz, who fell this Friday in the US Open semifinals against the Russian Daniil Medvedev, admitted that he still needs to improve his emotional management to face defeats like these.
āThese types of matches can happen even if I feel like a different, more mature player. He played a really fantastic game. I couldn’t find solutions in the gameāAlcaraz said in a press conference after the meeting.
āNow I am a better player at finding solutions when the game is not going in the right direction for me. But after this game, I’m going to change my mind. “I’m not mature enough to handle these types of matches so I have to learn from that.”reflected the 20-year-old tennis player.
Medvedev defeated Alcaraz 7-6(3), 6-1, 3-6 and 6-3 after a great match that lasted three hours and 19 minutes and now he will face Serbian Novak Djokovic in the final.
Although an Alcaraz-Djokovic final was expected, the Spaniard recognized the work of the Russian tennis player: āI would have loved to play in a final against Novak, but Daniil deserves to be in that final more than me.ā“There is nothing more to say,” he said.
āHe played a very solid match, both forehand and backhand (ā¦) Every time he threw a good parallel backhand or a good cross forehand, he returned it to me perhaps even better (ā¦). But Daniil is one of the best players in the world, so you can’t be impressed by what he does on the court.” Alcaraz explained.
The Spanish tennis player closes 2023 with the Wimbledon title and the semifinals of Roland Garros and the United States Open (he did not play in the Australian Open due to injury).
