The New York Jets confirmed this Tuesday that Aaron Rodgers will miss the entire 2023 NFL season due to a torn Achilles tendon suffered this Monday in the 22-16 victory over the Buffalo Bills.
After Rodgers’ injury, rumors about the Jets’ plan for the quarterback position have only just begun. Journalist Jordan Schultz revealed that Colin Kaepernick would be very interested in replacing Rodgers on the Jets.
“Just spoke with Colin Kaepernick, who tells me his agent has contacted the #Jets about his desire to return to the NFL. Kaepernick remains on the West Coast working out,” Schultz wrote on his X account (formerly Twitter).
“I just need an opportunity”was what the former 49ers quarterback texted Schultz.
For next Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, Jets substitute Zach Wilson is expected to start the game as quarterback on the team led by head coach Robert Saleh.
Kaepernick out of the NFL since 2016
Colin Kaepernick, played six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL (2011-2016), he totaled 12,271 yards, 72 touchdown passes and 30 interceptions in 69 games played (58 as a starter).
He led the 49ers to Super Bowl XLVII in the 2012 season, the championship game that they lost 31-34 to the Baltimore Ravens.
Although Kaepernick has not played since 2016 because that year he began kneeling during the United States national anthem as a protest against racial inequality in this country.
By 2017, he became a free agent and “curiously” no team signed him for that season. Kaepernick sued the NFL for preventing him from doing his job and finally in 2019 both parties reached a private settlement.
