For more than half of Americans it is necessary to start their morning with a cup of coffee and get a boost of energy.

Coffee is a stimulating drink, a natural source of caffeine. When consumed in moderation and without sugar, coffee can be considered a healthy drink.

The Harvard Nutrition Source explains that low to moderate doses of caffeine can increase alertness, energy, and the ability to concentrate.

How much coffee do Americans need to feel productive?

A OnePoll survey of 2,050 US office workers found that people need a very specific amount of coffee to feel productive.

The survey reveals that a cup of hot coffee is the first drink of the day for more than half of those surveyed (66%), nearly half of those surveyed (47%) also drink an iced coffee when they arrive at work, followed by water (45%) and flavored water (30%).

In the OnePoll survey on behalf of the multi-drink system manufacturer Flavia, it was also found that there may be a link between beverage preference and productivity.

Seventy-seven percent of coffee drinkers need two or more cups of coffee to feel productive on a workday, and nearly a quarter (24%) said Monday was the day of the week they needed the most coffee.

Coffee to improve mood

In addition to drinking coffee to feel productive, six in ten respondents said they also use a cup of hot coffee to improve your mood at work.

Harvard shares that the naturally occurring polyphenols in both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee can act as antioxidants to reduce damaging oxidative stress and inflammation in cells. Coffee may have neurological benefits in some people and act as an antidepressant.

How much coffee daily is healthy to consume

A moderate amount of coffee is an average of 400mg of caffeine, about four cups. An 8-ounce cup of brewed coffee contains about 95 mg of caffeine.

Medline Plus (US National Library of Medicine) shares that for most people, it is not harmful to consume up to 400 mg of caffeine per day. If too much caffeine is consumed, it can cause some health problems including: restlessness and tremors, insomnia; Headaches; dizziness; fast heart rate; and anxiety.

Pregnant women should consume less than 200mg of caffeine per daythe amount in 2 cups of coffee, because caffeine passes through the placenta to the fetus.
