A grenade exploded at a family home in Lake County, Indiana, leaving one man deadwhile his two children were injured, local authorities reported.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Department said deputies responded to reports of an explosion at the Four Seasons lake around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, it said. Fox News.

Investigators determined that the family affected by the explosive was going through the grandfather’s belongings.when they found a grenade that was active.

One of the family members pulled the pin out of the grenade and it immediately exploded.

When police arrived, they encountered a 47-year-old man, who was later identified as Bryan Niedert.from Lake Four Seasons, who was unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene.

For their part, the victim’s two children, an 18-year-old woman and a 14-year-old man, whose identities were not revealed, were taken to a nearby hospital in order to receive treatment for injuries from the weapon.

As part of the response from law enforcement in neighboring Porter County, A bomb squad was sent to the scene to help secure the area and determine if there were additional explosives inside the house.

Homicide detectives from the Lake County Sheriff’s Department and Crime Scene Investigation Unit are leading the investigation into the tragic incident.
