Freight cars derailed in Texas

Three freight cars they derailed but remained upright at a southeast Texas rail yard Monday, the firm that owns the train said. There were no injuries.

There was a fuel leak, but it was contained, Kansas City Southern company spokeswoman C. Doniele Carlson said in a statement.

He derailment It happened at about 7 am in Kendleton, Texas, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) southwest of Houston, Carlson said.

“No injuries were reported and there was no damage to the tracks,” Carlson said. The railway was expected to reopen later.

Fort Bend County police said they did not respond to the incident because it was confined to the rail depot.

The cause of derailment is being investigated, Carlson said.

Federal regulators and congressmen have called on rail companies to do more to prevent derailments, following recent hazardous chemical events in Ohio and Minnesota.
