Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was rushed to an intensive care unit at a Milan hospitalaccording to various media reports.

The 86-year-old media mogul is being treated at San Raffaele hospital, the clinic where he routinely receives care, they told Reuters on Wednesday at least three political sources, according to the information agency.

It was also reported that Berlusconi to undergo heart surgery due to apparent respiratory problems, according to other Italian media.

The former Italian prime minister, who made his fortune through his television channels before entering politics, had just visited the San Raffaele hospital, where his personal doctor reportedly works, for a regular check-up and was discharged on last thursday.

A day later, on March 31, tweeted: “I have already returned to work on the main themes of these days, ready and determined to commit myself, as I have always done, to the country I love.”

It should be remembered that the Forza Italia leader has suffered repeated bouts of ill health in recent years and was released from hospital last week.

In addition, Berlusconi, a four-time prime minister, underwent major heart surgery in 2016 to replace an aortic valve and has also overcome prostate cancer; in fact, he has been repeatedly admitted to the hospital over the past two years after contracting Covid-19 in 2020.

Berlusconi’s Forza Italia party is part of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s right-wing coalition, though it has no role in government. Forza Italia pioneered populist politics in Italy in the 1990s.

Berlusconi has generated controversy in recent months with his criticism of Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky, putting him at odds with Meloni.

He was also accused of bribing 24 people, mostly young people, invited to his so-called “Bunga-Bunga” parties, in an earlier trial in which he was accused of paying for sex with a 17-year-old Moroccan nightclub dancer. .
